UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The woman who stabbed her Upper West Side neighbor to death in 2018 will spend the next 20 years of her life behind bars, officials said following her sentencing on Thursday.
A group of four were charged for conspiring to traffic a 14-year-old girl announced, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr., announced Thursday.
“Egypt has an incredibly rich cultural history that we will not allow to be diminished by selfish looters and traffickers. I am proud that my Office has successfully returned more than 25 antiquities to Egypt in just over two years, and we look forward to continued work with our partners at HSI to protect cultural heritage all around the globe,” said District Attorney Bragg.
“A hallmark of sex trafficking is coercion, which we allege was employed here through a despicable cycle of drugs and debts,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Again and again we see traffickers prey on vulnerabilities to turn a profit while maintaining control. “Anya Johnston callously took the life of her neighbor Susan Trott, a lifelong New Yorker with a kind-hearted, generous spirit,” said District Attorney Bragg. “To Ms. Trott’s family and loved ones, Johnston robbed them of a friend, mentor and business partner. Since her loss, they have experienced overwhelming emotional pain, and I hope today’s sentence can offer them a sense of justice knowing Johnston has been held accountable.”
