“Times Square is no place for firearms,” said District Attorney Bragg. “As alleged, Brian Melecio brought a loaded gun to a popular place to eat, drink, and have fun – putting employees and all of his fellow patrons in danger. After getting kicked out, we allege he not only pistol-whipped a street vendor, but punched a police officer. We do not tolerate illegal guns or violence against police officers.”
“The subway is the backbone of our city. Everyone deserves to feel safe on the subway and this is especially true for the men and women who work so hard to keep the subway and this city running. As alleged, this defendant attacked a New Yorker doing her job. We wish her a speedy recovery and will hold this defendant accountable,” said District Attorney Bragg.
Safety and fairness go hand-in-hand. District Attorney Bragg created the Office’s first Pathways to Public Safety Division to enhance and elevate the use of diversion and evidence-based programming, ensuring individuals involved in the criminal justice system receive necessary services to reduce recidivism and enhance public safety.
An 11-year veteran prosecutor, McNabney served as deputy chief of the Human Trafficking Response Unit beginning in 2019 and was appointed its chief earlier this year.
