A New York City designer to stars – including the likes of Julia Roberts and Cynthia Erivo – has been charged with running a “sweatshop” and bilking her employees out of thousands in unpaid wages.
“As alleged, Andrea Marshall, the owner of Salon 1884, exploited and stole approximately $54,000 in wages from her employees while selling luxury garments. She preyed on the significant power imbalance of her employees who relied on the promised wages for housing and basic living expenses, feared retaliation, and lacked the financial resources to pursue legal recourse,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Hard working New Yorkers deserve every dollar they earn. “Ross Falzone was walking to a Chelsea subway station when Rhamell Burke allegedly shoved him down the stairs, abruptly ending his life. This unprovoked and terrifying act of violence committed against an older New Yorker shook our city,” said District Attorney Bragg. “My thoughts are with Mr. Falzone’s loved ones as they mourn his tragic loss.”
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg says his office’s efforts to prevent gun violence across the borough are bearing fruit, as the island is seeing sharp declines in homicides and gun violence over the last several years.
