“A jury of Davis Lange’s peers found him guilty of raping a young woman who had considered him a friend during a visit to his apartment,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The survivor knew and trusted Lange, and he callously violated that trust. “In less than an hour of deliberations, a jury of Darryl Phelps’ peers found him guilty of brutally raping a young woman who was simply trying to walk home from work,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Notably, while this survivor did not return to the United States to testify, our prosecutors were able to secure this conviction using body-worn camera footage, eyewitness testimony, and other evidence.”

“This sentence sends the message that in New York, cold cases do not go forgotten,” said District Attorney Bragg. “DNA evidence coupled with an anonymous tip received years after these horrifying crimes of escalating violence led to Rashaun Kelley’s arrest, and ultimately, to today’s sentencing.
