“As alleged, Mr. Rosario’s life was brought to a violent end when he was stabbed following a dispute that started over a cigarette.” said District Attorney Bragg. “Today’s indictment demonstrates we will not accept this violence, and my thoughts are with those grieving Mr. Rosario’s loss.”
“Juan Escobar allegedly defrauded the system and lined his own pockets at the expense of the safety of his workers,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Workers should be afforded every protection possible. I am grateful to the prosecutors in my office for their commitment to protecting the City’s workers.”
A subcontractor texted Robert Baselice, an executive at a Secaucus, N.J., firm helping a developer find construction companies for a project. He told Mr. Baselice that he had quoted the developer a price as high as $3.3 million for a job.
“The New York State Insurance Fund provides critical insurance coverage to injured workers, including those in some of our most dangerous industries like construction and manufacturing,” said District Attorney Bragg. “By intentionally underreporting payrolls, scammers save millions in premiums at the expense of hardworking New Yorkers who put their physical safety on the line. I thank the New York State Insurance Fund and the New York State Department of Labor for their ongoing partnership as we continue to root out insurance fraud.”
Two dozen individuals and 26 companies found themselves charged in a multimillion-dollar construction industry kickback scheme in an indictment that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg unveiled Wednesday.
