Six businesspeople involved in the construction industry were charged in an illegal campaign-finance scheme to make straw donations to New York City Mayor Eric Adams in hopes of gaining favor with his administration, the Manhattan district attorney’s office said Friday.
“A jury held Christian Jeffers accountable for this intentional assault in our subway system. This conviction sends a strong message that we will thoroughly investigate and prosecute those who target other New Yorkers with this type of violence,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I thank our prosecutors for their work achieving this outcome and to the victims who testified and bravely shared their stories in court.”
“As alleged, for several weeks these defendants carefully plotted to murder Timothy Parker before fatally shooting him last fall,” said District Attorney Bragg. “We see time and time again the countless lives that are taken due to gun violence and we stand at the ready to prosecute those who commit these acts of violence.”
“We allege a deliberate scheme to game the system in a blatant attempt to gain power. The indictment charges the defendants with subverting campaign finance laws by improperly structuring campaign contributions,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The New York City Campaign Finance Board program is meant to support our democracy and amplify the voices of New York City voters. When the integrity of that program is corrupted, all New Yorkers suffer.”
Mental health is wealth, so $6 million will go toward Harlem-based nonprofit The Bridge from the Manhattan D.A.’s Office to provide peer services to key areas in the borough, as announced last Thursday, June 27.
