Brandon Elliot, who pleaded guilty to charges related to a vicious hate crime on a 65-year-old Asian American woman that occurred in 2021, was sentenced on Wednesday to 15 years in state prison, prosecutors announced.
A Manhattan woman was sentenced on Wednesday to 12 years in state prison after pleading guilty to a charge accusing her of the brutal stabbing of a 39-year-old juice store employee in the Upper East Side, prosecutors said.
The victim of a vicious hate crime spoke out for the first time Wednesday as her attacker was sentenced to prison.
“Brandon Elliot assaulted a 65-year-old woman because of her Filipino descent,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This attack has left lasting fear and anxiety for the victim and many in the AAPI community. I hope the closure of this case will allow the victim to continue healing and moving forward, while also sending a strong message that we will seek full accountability for anyone who commits violence against their fellow New Yorkers because of their race or ethnicity.”
“Cha’la Jamison ferociously attacked and seriously injured a New Yorker who was just doing his job,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This attack has significantly impacted the victim, who continues to suffer physical pain and emotional trauma, and has been unable to work. I hope this sentence can offer some peace and comfort, despite the serious harm that occurred. I thank our prosecutors for working diligently to secure accountability in this case.”
