In a somber turn of events that has captured the attention of Manhattan, 19-year-old Jiniye Hooks admitted guilt in a harrowing case involving the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy and the injury of another teen in East Harlem. The case, stemming from a violent altercation in July 2022, sheds light on the ongoing issue of youth violence and its repercussions.
A man pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a 14-year-old boy and injuring a 15-year-old boy in East Harlem in 2022, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
“Ms. Johnston’s heinous and calculated actions reflected a blatant disregard for Ms. Trott’s life, as she left her body to decompose for nearly four days after the stabbing,” Bragg said. “I hope the accountability delivered by today’s guilty verdict can provide comfort to Ms. Trott’s loved ones, who continue to heal from the deep trauma her death has caused.”
“Jiniye Hooks chose to target two boys in a vicious act of violence that tragically took Mr. Streeter’s life too soon,” said District Attorney Bragg. “No family should have to grieve the loss of a child, and my thoughts are with Mr. Streeter’s family as they continue healing from his loss. Combatting gun violence remains a top priority for me, and my office will continue to hold people accountable when they commit these serious acts of violence.”
“Leandro Díaz-Ramirez’s reckless driving caused the tragic deaths of two pedestrians,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Leandro Díaz-Ramírez appropriately received the maximum sentence for second-degree murder, but nothing can bring back Joel Adames and David Fernández, whose lives were cut short. We cannot allow this type of speeding to become normalized due to the serious consequences for public safety, and my Office will continue to hold accountable drivers who harm pedestrians.”
