Officers at the scene of this incident were already dealing with a chaotic situation where thousands were arrested, and then had to experience the despicable actions by this defendant. According to the D.A.’s office, the accused, 38-year-old Waldemar Alverio, faces multiple charges, including three counts of An Attempt to Commit the Crime of Murder in the Second Degree and two counts of Assault in the First Degree.
Bragg said that Alverio allegedly shot two people at Tompkins Square Park on March 16. Along with injuring two victims, both incidents “put numerous lives in danger,” rattling parkgoers and sending them running for cover.
