A high-ranking NYPD official tried to evade drunk driving charges in 2022 by getting a Manhattan bar to delete security camera footage after he downed a dozen drinks inside, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
A man that sold guns and gun components to right-wing extremists via a Telegram group chat–from federal prison in Louisiana, no less–has been indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, after he allegedly sold weaponry to an undercover NYPD officer. One user of the chat reportedly committed the 2022 mass shooting at Tops Supermarket in Buffalo, New York, which specifically targeted Black victims.
“This alleged behavior was incredibly dangerous, leading to injuries for one cab driver and putting the safety of many other drivers and pedestrians at risk. Furthermore, this NYPD Deputy Inspector, then a Commanding Officer, allegedly went to great lengths to cover up the incident to avoid responsibility,” said District Attorney Bragg. “We will continue to hold public servants accountable when they violate the public trust.”
“As alleged, after waiting for hours outside of Shirley Rodriguez’s home, Tyquane Jemmott sprung from behind a car the moment she stepped outside and took her life in a flurry of stab wounds,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Shirley Rodriguez was beloved by her family, including her mother, father, and sister who so tragically had to hear this young woman’s final words as she succumbed to her injuries. My thoughts are with them as they continue to grieve her loss.”
“As alleged, Shaquan Cummings slashed an 11-year-old child walking with her mother in the back of the head minutes after punching a woman in the face,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. “New Yorkers deserve to feel safe when walking through Manhattan and those who jeopardize their safety will be held accountable.”
