The shoplifters, unlicensed cannabis shops, illegal scaffolding and purveyors of general disorder in Midtown face a new foe: the Midtown Community Improvement Coalition, recently unveiled by government and civic leaders.
Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg told 1010 WINS on Tuesday that animal abuse cases like this are “very sobering” and that it’s “very important to send a message that this is unlawful criminal conduct, as alleged here, and that we will hold people accountable for it.”
“As alleged, Steven Johnson attacked a restaurant employee just one day before slashing a pedestrian who was sitting in a plaza,” Bragg said. “My thoughts are with the victims as they heal from their extensive injuries. Those who harm and threaten the safety of New Yorkers will be held accountable.”
“As alleged, Joseph Kauffmann abused his dog by throwing him off the bed and scalding him with hot water for a prolonged period of time,” Bragg said. “Pets are expected to be cared for by their owners, and this horrific alleged behavior will not be tolerated.”
Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg yesterday announced the indictment of Steven Johnson, 35, in the random slashing of a man on Astor Place on June 6. Bragg said that Johnson is also accused of assaulting a restaurant employee with a tire chain on St Mark’s Place the day before.
