A man was indicted on Tuesday for shooting two police officers after robbing a group of people at gunpoint in Manhattan, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced.
A 22-year-old man has been indicted on charges after he shot two NYPD as they tried to apprehend him in Lower Manhattan last month, police said.
A man accused of shooting two NYPD sergeants in Chinatown last month was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday.
“As alleged, Joshua Dorsett shot two NYPD officers while fleeing from the scene of the armed robbery where he targeted a group of people playing mahjong. Every day, the brave members of the NYPD risk their lives to protect New Yorkers and Joshua Dorsett’s alleged actions could have killed these responding officers,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I thank the NYPD for their constant partnership as we work together to keep Manhattan safe. I hope Sergeants Carl Johnson and Christopher Leap continue to heal from this horrific attack.”
DA Alvin Bragg says he knows the Neighborhood Navigators initiative is unexpected coming from his office, which is chiefly concerned with prosecuting crimes, but he believes he can also use his resources to prevent people whose circumstances often land them on the wrong side of the law from ever making it to court.
