A 28-year-old man has been indicted for allegedly breaking into an Upper East Side apartment in the early hours of Sept. 28 and raping a 29-year-old woman, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
A man accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment on the Upper East Side, then brutally beating, raping and robbing her, was indicted for the crimes, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced on Monday.
“As alleged, Donovan Murphy committed horrific acts of violence and sexual assault in a woman’s own apartment,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Every New Yorker deserves to be safe in their own home, and we will continue to work hand in hand with our partners in law enforcement to make that a reality. Trauma-informed, survivor-centered care is available if you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted; please call our Special Victims Division at 212-335-9373.”
“As alleged, Jennifer Guilbeault senselessly assaulted a Muslim Uber driver while he was just doing his job,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The victim is a hardworking New Yorker who should not have to face this type of hate because of his identity. Everyone is welcome to live and work in Manhattan, and our Hate Crimes Unit will continue to address bias-motivated attacks by thoroughly investigating and prosecuting cases, conducting community outreach, and supporting victims.”
“The night of October 10, 2020, ended in tragedy for Joseph Bernard Nunez-Perez and his loved ones. While we have made strides in driving down shootings and homicides, there are far too many families who continue to face the devastating impact of gun violence. I am thankful to our team of prosecutors who worked to achieve a strong measure of accountability in this matter, sending a clear message that gun violence will never be tolerated in Manhattan,” said District Attorney Bragg.
