On Tuesday, May 13, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. announced the indictment of Philip Wales, 30, for allegedly assaulting and harassing a gay couple in the Flatiron neighborhood.
New York state officials are working to clamp down on illegal guns by outlawing the sharing of digital blueprints that allow individuals to 3D print components that turn semi-automatic firearms into machine guns.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office is returning eight trafficked artefacts to Peruvian authorities. A majority of the objects in question originate from Peru’s North Coast, a heavily looted area rich with pre-Columbian tombs and relics from the Moche civilisation, a non-monolithic group that specialised in the production of gold and ceramics from 100AD to 800AD. Many of these relics were absorbed into international looting networks and funneled into institutions in the United States with falsified provenances.
New York state lawmakers and law enforcement officials are pushing for a bill that aims to curtail the spread of homemade devices that can turn average firearms into machine guns capable of spraying hundreds of bullets in a matter of seconds.
“Driving down gun violence and addressing the proliferation of 3D-printed and ghost guns is an ongoing priority for my office that requires an aggressive and holistic approach. Auto sears are dangerous weapons that further exacerbate gun violence and need to be treated extremely seriously. Our proposed legislation reflects a comprehensive legislative fix that would give us additional tools to hold people accountable who are using and developing illegal firearms. I hope the legislature gives serious consideration to this bill before the session ends in June, and I thank Senator Hoylman-Sigal and Assemblymember Rosenthal for their continued support and leadership,” said District Attorney Bragg.
