A New York man admitted Monday that he posed as a lawyer to steal over $290,000 from people who thought he was doing class action, discrimination and other legal work, copping to larceny and fraud charges in state court.
“Sean Mescall went to extreme lengths to steal from over one hundred New Yorkers, falsely posing as an attorney providing legal assistance, while he was actually exploiting them,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Those who defraud Manhattanites seeking help will be held accountable. The majority-female jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on the count of third-degree rape involving Jessica Mann. The jury had previously delivered its verdict on the two other charges against Weinstein: he was convicted Wednesday of committing a criminal sexual act against Miriam Haley but acquitted of sexually assaulting Kaja Sokola.
After an eight-week trial in Manhattan Supreme Court, jurors found Weinstein, 73, guilty of criminal sex act against former TV production assistant Miriam Haley, but acquitted him of the same charge against a second accuser, Polish model Kaja Sokola.
In the morning, Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber declared a mistrial related to a count alleging the disgraced, 73-year-old Hollywood executive raped actress Jessica Mann in 2013, capping an eight-week trial that opened April 23.
