A New York City man who stabbed two teenage tourists from Paraguay at Grand Central Terminal on Christmas Day 2023 was sentenced Friday to more than 26 years in prison.

A serial predator will most likely never walk free again after receiving what amounts to an effective life sentence this week for sexually assaulting and strangling an 81-year-old woman in her Manhattan apartment two years ago, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
“Esteban Esonoasue will serve a very significant prison term for attacking three victims, including two teenagers, at Grand Central Terminal,” said District Attorney Bragg. “My thoughts remain with the victims and their loved ones, who continue to navigate the psychological and emotional effects from this horrific attack. New Yorkers, commuters and tourists rely on the transit system daily and deserve to be safe when they travel, and we will hold those accountable who commit acts these of violence.”
“This ring laundered more than $1.2 million through New York’s banks and financial services using checks for personal and corporate accounts, cashiers’ checks, and large cash withdrawals,” said District Attorney Bragg. “From ‘renovations’ to ‘packaging preorder,’ the memo line of check after check was a farce. I thank our dedicated prosecutors for their work on this case and urge New Yorkers to use secure electronic payment methods to prevent future check fraud.”
