Manhattan prosecutors said they are breaking up warring gangs by using lump prosecutions — slapping charges on the violent crews terrorizing the northern part of the borough.
“Andre Cheeves allegedly tried to hit a stranger with a heavy chain in an unprovoked hate crime inside of a subway station,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Targeting and harming Manhattanites based on their race is abhorrent and will not be tolerated. “This defendant horrifically abused a defenseless, 81-year-old woman, which was proven through the survivor’s honest and unwavering testimony at trial. A former New York lawyer admitted to stealing millions from clients, including draining more than $4.4 million from the attorney escrow account of a company seeking to buy 500,000 boxes of hard-to-find latex gloves during the COVID-19 pandemic, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr., announced Tuesday.
“This plea and expected prison sentence demonstrate the seriousness with which my office treats fraud targeting New Yorkers,” said District Attorney Bragg. “From real estate clients to a company purchasing hard-to-find medical gloves during the pandemic, Bryan McKenna repeatedly drained the accounts of those who looked to him for legal representation.
