Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced Tuesday that homicides and shootings in the New York City borough both fell by more than 40% in the first half. He said there were 22 murders in Manhattan in the six months ending June 29, a 46% drop from 2023. Shootings fell 43%.
“Combatting gun violence remains a top priority for my office, and our comprehensive approach has led to a more than 40% decrease in both shootings and homicides so far this year. From aggressive enforcement to strategic partnerships and targeted community investments, we are doing the work to drive down cycles of gun violence and stem the flow of illegal firearms. I thank our prosecutors, law enforcement partners and community leaders for their continued efforts. By working together and using every tool at our disposal, we can achieve lasting public safety,” said District Attorney Bragg.
The number of shootings and homicides in Manhattan has drastically fallen during the first half of 2025, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg told amNewYork on Tuesday.
“The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was able to conduct more advanced DNA testing than was available at the time, and the DNA of Mr. Collins and Mr. Boles was not found on the descendent,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg told reporters Thursday.
“We have two men who went to jail for decades for a conviction we no longer have confidence in, we also have an unsolved homicide,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
