The Fulton Street subway shover, Christian Valdez, 36, of Brooklyn, was sentenced to 18 years in state prison on July 29 after pleading guilty in New York State Supreme Court to one count of attempted murder in the second degree back in June.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has two community offices in Washington Heights and Harlem that serve as a vital link between the District Attorney’s Office and uptown residents. Both offices address problems and provide resources relating to domestic violence, immigration fraud, and other crucial issues while also building and strengthening trust between community members and law enforcement officials.
Prosecutors and investigators in Manhattan are learning a new way to interview suspects, witnesses and victims that aims to be more ethical and accurate than traditional interrogations.
“Keanu Martinez violently raped a woman and a teenager who he targeted for their perceived vulnerabilities. But these survivors were stronger than he could have imagined, and took the stand to testify to his horrific crimes,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I thank my office’s prosecutors and everyone who worked on this trial for securing accountability for these crimes. Most of all, I thank the survivors for their bravery in sharing what happened both at the trial and at today’s sentencing.”
A 38-year-old man was sentenced to 75 years-to-life for kidnapping, raping, and trafficking three women, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced Friday.
