“The breadth of these repatriations is a reminder of the global scope of antiquities trafficking,” said District Attorney Bragg. “None of this would be possible without the extraordinary investigative work of our team, and I am extremely grateful for their continued dedication.”
“I am pleased that we have now been able to return more than 50 antiquities back to Mexico. We believe that the trafficking networks we have identified are responsible for other pieces looted throughout Mexico, and our work continues,” said District Attorney Bragg.
“In the past two years we have successfully repatriated more than 20 antiquities to the people of Nepal, all of which have come from well-known trafficking networks that we continue to dismantle. We hope to hold additional ceremonies with our counterparts in Nepal in the coming months and years,” said District Attorney Bragg.
“These sculptures have been in New York City illegally for decades, and thanks to the work of our prosecutors, analysts and investigators, they are finally being returned to Cambodia,” said District Attorney Bragg.
“Despite our significant progress dismantling these extensive trafficking networks, there is clearly still more work to do. Museums and galleries in Manhattan should not be filled with looting or stolen cultural artifacts,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
