“Tom Ruiz and Jonathan Tolentino carried out the cold-blooded execution and robbery of 26-year-old Michael Monclus hoping that they could gain status within their gang and pay back their debts. Mr. Monclus was cared for by his whole family, adored his son, and loved to help others,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I send my deep condolences to Mr. Monclus’s family, including his parents, brothers, former girlfriend and six-year-old son, who are continuing to mourn his devastating loss. I hope today’s sentence can provide Mr. Monclus’s loved ones a sense of comfort and closure as Tom Ruiz and Jonathan Tolentino are being held accountable for their fatal actions.”

“As alleged, Miguel Urena intentionally fired a gun in the direction of a man in a crowded subway station, recklessly disregarding the risk to his fellow New Yorkers,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Although nobody was hit, several individuals had to jump out of the way for safety. The alleged conduct is unacceptable, and we will continue to prosecute those who commit acts of violence in our transit system.”

“As alleged, Michael Monahan possessed a fully loaded gun and displayed it to a subway rider while onboard a public train,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This alleged conduct also jeopardized the safety of the other train passengers and thankfully, nobody was hurt. Our transit system is no place for dangerous weapons and anyone who seeks to cause harm will be held accountable.”

“As alleged, Michael McCloskey viciously stabbed a carpenter at the world’s busiest bus terminal, causing significant injuries,” said District Attorney Bragg. “In Manhattan, we take acts of violence committed at major transit sites very seriously and will continue working hard to hold accountable those who commit such acts. I wish the victim a swift recovery.”

“As alleged, Carlton McPherson tragically took Jason Volz’s life in a vicious and completely unprovoked act of violence,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Mr. Volz was a father and native New Yorker, and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones in their ongoing grief. I thank the prosecutors for their hard work in securing this indictment and we will continue to do all we can to hold people accountable who threaten the safety of fellow New Yorkers in our subway system.”
