The longtime general counsel to New York City’s Department of Probation is headed to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as a new Pathways to Public Safety division chief, District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced in an email to staff.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr. announced on Thursday two indictments against Certified Public Accountant Steven Lyon for defrauding the New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF) of over $10 million.
“The work we do in this space would not be possible without the close collaboration and partnership of our integral local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. Construction fraud can fleece the public, hurt law-abiding business owners, and endanger the lives of workers,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. “The expansion of the Construction Fraud Task Force demonstrates the seriousness of our commitment to rooting out illegal activity and creating a safe and fair industry.”
“These alleged lies are not just numbers on paper – they hurt the financial wellbeing of hardworking construction workers. These companies saved millions in premiums at the expense of their employees and left New York taxpayers on the hook for the bill,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The New York State Insurance Fund provides critical insurance coverage to injured workers, who should be afforded every protection while working dangerous construction jobs.”
