A man is accused of attacking two children near the High Line on Oct. 15, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
“As alleged, Ramny Lopez assaulted two innocent children in an unprovoked, broad-daylight attack. One of these children was just two years old and sitting in a stroller as her family explored New York City while on vacation,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Parents shouldn’t have to fear for the safety of their children when walking through Manhattan. We will continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to make our streets safe for tourists and residents of all ages.”
“We allege that, with the help of insiders at cellphone stores, this ring stole hundreds of thousands from Manhattanites by accessing their accounts through SIM-swapping,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Again and again, we see New Yorkers’ funds drained after their phones are taken over through similar schemes. I urge New Yorkers to remain vigilant and consistently monitor bank accounts for fraud. If you receive a notice that a new SIM card or device is being activated on your phone line without your request, immediately contact your provider at a number you know to be the company’s official phone number.”
“Justin Deprospo callously and fatally shot Burnie Pleasant, a father of two with musical aspirations,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Gun violence has cut short far too many lives and has destroyed entire families. My Office will continue to hold accountable anyone who uses guns to harm New Yorkers – nobody should have to experience the pain experienced by Mr. Pleasant’s loved ones.”
“As alleged, Marilyn Peter and Mark Anthony used false information to steal more than $2 million in funds intended to provide relief to businesses at the height of the pandemic,” said District Attorney Bragg. “They then allegedly used a substantial amount of those funds to purchase an apartment complex for their own profit. We will not tolerate abuse of government funds, and I thank our law enforcement partners for their work on this investigation, particularly the New York State Inspector General’s Office.”
