“Our entire city continues to mourn the tragic losses of Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Umberger,” said District Attorney Bragg. “In addition to the pain their deaths have caused for their family and loved ones, I know that many other New Yorkers have feared for their own safety when going out to meet up with friends. “This victim was allegedly violently attacked in front of his own children for just trying to do his job,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Food cart vendors are a key part of the fabric of our city, and these hardworking New Yorkers deserve to be safe when they go to work every day.”

“Rebecca Hillman failed in her duty to provide for the safety of those under her watch as a Captain of the Department of Correction, causing the death of Ryan Wilson through her inexplicable negligence. Incarcerated individuals deserve to have their lives treated with dignity. I cannot imagine the pain that Mr. Wilson family and loved ones continue to feel, and I am deeply sorry for their loss,” said District Attorney Bragg.

“Ray’s Candy Store is a beloved staple in the East Village community, and the attack on its owner is deeply upsetting to everyone who has ever visited this local institution. In addition to this alleged assault, these defendants are also charged with attacking two other strangers on the street within mere hours,” said District Attorney Bragg.

“This was a brutal and callous murder that no family should ever have to experience.
