D.A. Bragg Announces Return of 12 Antiquities To The People of Lebanon
“These pieces sat in apartments, storage units and museums when they should have been in Lebanon. As we have demonstrated time and time again, there is no trafficking scheme or network too complex for our Office. Stolen antiquities that come through Manhattan will be repatriated to their home country,” said District Attorney Bragg.
D.A. Bragg Announces Return of 42 Antiquities to the People of Italy
“We continue to undo the damage wrought by decades of well-organized antiquities smuggling networks throughout Italy. I am proud that we have successfully repatriated more than 200 antiquities to Italy since I took Office, but there is a lot more work to be done. We are going to continue to aggressively find, recover and return stolen artifacts from Italy in partnership with HSI, the Consul General’s Office and the Carabinieri,” said District Attorney Bragg.
D.A. Bragg Announces Return of Antiquity From the Olmec Civilization To The People of Mexico
“This incredible, ancient piece is a rare window into the past of Olmec society,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Like many other looted antiquities, the Olmec Cave Mask was broken into several different pieces to make the smuggling process simpler. After being sent to different museums and private collections across the United States for nearly 60 years, the Cave Mask can finally return to sit with the rest of its companion monuments.”
D.A. Bragg Announces Return of Two Antiquities To The People of Libya
“It is shameful that these beautiful pieces were stored away for decades by a convicted trafficker. Cyrene has faced significant looting, but thanks to the work of our Antiquities Trafficking Unit and partners at Homeland Security, we have now returned several pieces from this ancient city back to the people of Libya. We continue to have ongoing investigations into stolen Libyan artifacts and look forward to more repatriation ceremonies in the future,” said District Attorney Bragg.
