“When New Yorkers go to work, they should not have to fear for their safety,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Joshua Morciglio’s violent actions inflicted serious harm on a store worker, and now he faces accountability. While today’s sentence cannot take away the pain, I hope it brings some peace to the victim.” 

“As alleged, Dafren Canizalez was brutally killed in an attack by a group, who trapped and chased him until he collapsed,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Everyone who comes into our city deserves to be safe, and we will continue to hold those who commit serious acts of violence accountable.”  

“Trevon Murphy brutally murdered one unhoused individual and critically injured two others in a series of late-night attacks,” said Manhattan District Attorney Bragg. “Those who are unhoused already face extreme hardships and vulnerability, and their safety should not be in jeopardy.”

“The defendant’s criminal conduct was an unspeakable betrayal,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Khalid Barrow strangled his cousin in her own home, all for his own financial gain. I am amazed by the resiliency of Nisaa Walcott’s family members, who have persevered through the horrific murder of their loved one by her own cousin. They attended the trial every single day, listening to incredibly disturbing testimony. No sentence can undo this family’s pain, but I hope they continue to heal from this terrible loss.”

“A man who went into Bellevue Hospital was allegedly assaulted and left on the street. Furthermore, some of the defendants allegedly attempted to deny and conceal the use of force to evade accountability,” said District Attorney Bragg. “All New Yorkers must be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their needs, especially by the people who are supposed to protect and keep them safe.”
