“Today, Luis Gil is facing accountability for fatally stabbing 33-year-old Hugo Morales in an unprovoked attack on Pier 84. The defendant’s egregious actions abruptly cut Mr. Morales’s life short,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Mr. Morales immigrated to America with the hopes of earning enough money to eventually build his mother a house in Guatemala. My thoughts are with Mr. Morales’s loved ones as they continue to mourn his tragic loss.” 

“We remain focused on preventing and addressing stranger assaults like this one that allegedly occurred on Astor Place,” said District Attorney Bragg. “In addition to prosecuting these cases, I want the public to know we have resources to support victims and their loved ones. Being the victim of violence is an incredibly traumatic experience, in addition to the physical harm that can occur, and our trained counselors are here to help.”

“Christian Diaz has been sentenced to a significant prison term for killing Ahmed Almulaiki, a hardworking deli worker who was supporting his family,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The defendant’s aggressive and threatening behavior escalated to deadly violence, leaving Mr. Almulaiki’s family with immense heartache and grief. I thank our prosecutors for putting a compelling case in front of the jury to hold this defendant accountable and may Ahmed Almulaiki’s legacy be celebrated for years to come.”

“A 77-year-old woman was walking to urgent care when, as the indictment charged, Marvin White attacked her without provocation, before assaulting the responding officers. This defendant is now facing prison time for his deeply disturbing actions,” said District Attorney Bragg. “We take attacks on older adults and police officers very seriously and will continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to keep our streets safe.”
