A man who is accused of sexually assaulting a corpse on a Manhattan subway train last month was indicted Wednesday for attempted rape, prosecutors said.
A grand jury has indicted a Brooklyn man accused of robbing and sexually assaulting a motionless man — later determined to have died that night — on a subway train last month.
“Felix Rojas allegedly sexually assaulted a completely physically helpless man on the subway. This conduct is egregious, and we will prosecute this case to the fullest extent,” said District Attorney Bragg. “While transit crime is down, I want New Yorkers to know that we are continuing to work with our law enforcement partners make our bustling subway system safe. My thoughts are with Jorge Gonzalez’s loved ones who are continuing to mourn his tragic loss.”
“This is an incredibly disturbing series of alleged incidents that targeted multiple victims,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I thank the NYPD for quickly apprehending this defendant, and urge anyone who has been the victim of a sexual abuse should call our Special Victims Division at 212-335-9373.”
“We allege this defendant deliberately targeted the victim because of his sexual orientation,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This type of bias-motivated attack should never happen to anyone, and our Office is continuing to seek accountability in hate crime matters while also conducing community engagement and trainings to stop these attacks before they occur.”
